Guardian

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, originally called the Germania Life Insurance Company of New York, was founded by Hugo Wesendonck in 1860. It began opening agencies across the country within a couple of years after that, even serving subscribers in Colorado, North and South Dakota, New Mexico and Arizona before those territories became official states. Germania was the first American company to initiate an agency in Europe. Nearly half of the company’s business was outside North America in the early 1900s until World War I offset this trend. The name of the company changed officially to how it is known now in 1917.

Guardian is the fourth largest mutual life insurance company in America with over 80 agencies across the nation. It provides life, disability, health and dental insurance products as well as 401(k) financial products to individuals, businesses and their employees.

Guardian's Permanent Life Insurance plans are broken down into what is referred to as Whole Life Insurance and Universal Life Insurance. Whole Life Insurance offers premiums that are fixed for the life of the policy. The Universal plans offer flexible premiums with a level or increasing death benefit. Cash value builds with both types of policies.

Guardian's disability insurance provides a fixed monthly benefit. Even though the benefit doesn't increase over time, it is possible to purchase extra coverage. Benefit periods range from six months to the rest of your life.

With Guardian, employers can offer employees seeking medical coverage:

  • HMO plans
  • Point-of-service plans
  • Preferred provider plans
  • Indemnity coverage

Guardian's DentalGuard traditional indemnity plans allow you to visit any dental specialist while the Preferred PPO provides the highest level of benefits when you visit a network provider. After a deductible, both indemnity and PPO plans pay for a large percentage of dental expenses up to an allotted annual maximum.
