Monumental Life
Monumental Life Company was formed in Baltimore, Maryland in 1858. By the 1880s, Monumental Life, then called Mutual Life Insurance Company of Baltimore, had started issuing life insurance policies on children. During the early 1900s, the Company had $2.6 million of insurance policies, a number that equals roughly $51 million in today’s dollars.
In 1935, Monumental Life officially came into existence, with a name change to reflect host city Baltimore's name, the "Monumental City." During the 1980s, Monumental Life held $4 billion of insurance. Monumental Life, in existence for over 150 years, is planning on continuing to service the needs of clients into well the 21st century. As of April, 2003, Monumental Life has an A+ rating form A.M. Best, a AA+ rating from Fitch, and a AA rating from Standard & Poor's.
